Issued: 0530hrs Sunday 18th February 2018
Duty forecaster: Matthew Hugo

Varied weather as both high and low pressure try and dominate the weather

Sunday
Into Sunday and both high pressure and low pressure will try and dominate the weather across Europe bringing some highly varied conditions. Cloudy, damp and rather mild weather will develop across the British Isles, while high pressure affects France and Spain, along with Portugal with fine weather here with some sunshine. Low pressure however, albeit weak, will affect much of Italy and the Alps bringing rain and some mountain snow. Fine weather is expected across much of the eastern Med, including Greece and surrounding countries, while some snow flurries and cold weather affect more northern and eastern areas of Europe, including Finland, Sweden and down towards Poland for example.

Monday
Through into Monday and not a great deal of change is expected, with mainly dry weather across France and down towards Iberia, but with perhaps some patchy rain and drizzle developing across some western areas of France later in the day. Low pressure remains slow moving through central areas of the Med bringing a widespread risk of rain, showers, perhaps thunderstorms across Italy and with further snow for the Alps. Relatively mild, if not quite warm weather is expected across Greece and surrounding countries but with some scattered showers, while cold or very cold weather is maintained across much of Scandinavia and down towards eastern areas of Europe with snow flurries possible.
