Issued: 0530hrs Tuesday 19th December 2017 Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson
Generally mild, locally very mild north-east
Good morning,
High pressure is centred around the English Channel and northern France today. A generally fair day, with a mild southwesterly flow.
However, extensive fog affects central & south-eastern England this morning, and in some places the fog may persist most of the day, partcularly across East Anglia. Some hazy sunshine breaking through. Light winds across England & Wales.
Drizzly and damp in the west & north-west, with low cloud and hill fog. Fronts over the Atlantic move toward western Scotland and Ireland later today, bringing some persistent rain into the night. A strong south to southwesterly wind around some western coasts and over the hills.
Today's top temperatures will typically reach 7 to 10C, but where fog lingers it may stay below 5C. To the lee of high ground in north-east Scotland, it may locally reach 13C, thanks to a foehn effect across the mountains.
Have a great day. Garry
