Issued: 0530hrs Thursday 8th February 2018
Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

Rain in the north and west, drier in the east

Good morning,

A dry and breezy start ot the morning in central areas of England as well as East Anglia and the southeast. There will be sunny spells, although cloud increases in the west. A band of rain, rather fragmented will be affecting much of northern England, the Midlands, southern Scotland and most of Ireland. Brighter in northern and western Scotland with a few showers on western coasts.

The main rain band becomes heavier this afternoon as it slips eastwards. This mainly affects southern Scotland, northwest England, Wales and southwest England. Heavy showers follow to western Scotland and western Ireland, these turning wintry as colder air drains in. Staying dry and breezy in the east and south.

Th rain continues to edge east overnight, turning to snow on it's back edge. Turning showery to the west.
