Colder next week?
A bit of a guess!

Issued: 0900 Friday 16th February 2018
Duty forecaster: Dr. Simon Keeling

Turning colder next week, but then again, it may not!

Models are proving very unreliable when attempting to predict the weather for next week. Changes between each run of various models do not build confidence in the forecast. We have decided to follow our original ideas of a colder week and this does not necessarily follow model guidance. However, we do think cold or very cold weather could arrive next week with the east feeling especially raw.

Monday 19/2/18
An area of rain and cloud affects eastern parts of the Uk on Monday, this becoming slow moving. Drier to the west and brighter with the cloud breaking and some sunny spells. Highs at 6 to 11C.

Tuesday 20/2/18
An easterly wind develops on Tuesday, pushing cloud and rain westwards. A further front crosses Ireland bringing cloud and rain here, as well as to western England, western Scotland and Wales. Turning cooler in the east as drier air arrives. Highs at 5 to 8C.

Wednesday 21/2/18
Colder for all on Wednesday with high pressure expected to the east. There will be broken cloud and some sunshine in the west, but it may be that more cloud affects eastern areas. Generally dry apart from a few snow flurries in the southeast. Temperatures reaching a cold 3 to 5C.

Thursday 22/2/18
Pressure remains high to the east as a stiff east wind continues to blow. Broken cloud with the best of any brightness to the west, although note that confidence in the detail of the forecast remains low. Highs at 1 to 4C.

Friday 23/2/18
Despite low confidence, indications are that we remain in cold conditions during Friday as the east wind continues to blow. It brings snow flurries through many central, eastern and southern areas, whilst the north should be drier but still cold and rather cloudy. The best sunshine always to the northwest. Highs at 1 to 3C.

Saturday 24/2/18
Staying cold and rather cloudy in a stiff easterly wind on Saturday. Further snow flurries are likely, especially in eastern areas with the best of any brightness in the west. Tops at 1 to 3C.
