Colder next week?

Issued: 0900 Thursday 15th February 2018
Duty forecaster: Dr. Simon Keeling

Becoming drier and then turning colder late next week

Higher pressure builds through the weekend and into next week. This is going to be bringing some drier conditions. However, there is much uncertainty regarding temperatures and it could be that things turn colder later next week as easterly winds develop.

Sunday 18/2/18
High pressure centred south of the UK and Ireland on Sunday. Fronts bring some cloud and outbreaks of rain and drizzle to northern and western Scotland and to western coasts of England and Wales. Low cloud shrouds the hills and coasts in the west too. Drier and brighter to the east and south with some brighter spells coming through. Tops at 8 to 11C.

Monday 19/2/18
High pressure is expected to be over the UK and Ireland on Monday. This should be bringing a fair amount of dry weather. There will be cloud for many, with some patchy rain in the south and east. Highs at 6 to 12C.

Tuesday 20/2/18
High pressure over the UK and Ireland on Tuesday, although a brisker easterly breeze develops in the south during the day. This may bring cloud and some outbreaks of drizzle and rain to eastern and southern coasts, whilst western areas stay dry with some decent spells of sunshine. However, an ld front could give cloud and some drizzle in western Scotland and western Ireland. Highs at 7 to 11C.

Wednesday 21/2/18
A cooler day is likely on Wednesday as the easterly wind brings that cold weather in from the continent. The risk of some drizzle in the east, but drier and brighter west and north. A notable change in temperatures with highs at 6 to 8C.

Thursday 22/2/18
High pressure is expected to remain in control on Thursday. An east or northeast flow affects most areas bringing plenty of dry weather in the west, but some patchy rain on eastern coasts. Highs at 5 to 7C.

Friday 23/2/18
High pressure to the east and low pressure to the west on Friday. This is likely to be bringing cool but mostly dry weather in much of the UK. There could be some cloud in Ireland with the risk of some patchy rain here. Highs at 4 to 7C.
