Europe forecast - May 26, 2018
Dry In The North
Thundery Showers Elsewhere

Issued: 0530hrs Saturday 26th May 2018
Duty forecaster: Matthew Hugo

High pressure will continue to dominate across many northern areas of Europe maintaining mainly dry weather, but with thundery showers elsewhere despite some sunshine.

Saturday
Into Saturday and a large and dominant area of high pressure extends across much of Norway, Sweden and Finland and also down into the British Isles too, albeit with some showers possible across England and Wales. As a result much of northern Europe will have a fine and warm day with spells of sunshine at times as well. It may, however, become cooler with a few showers across the far north of Norway and Sweden later in the day as winds change to more of a NW'ly here. The remainder of Europe will continue to experience relatively low atmospheric pressure. As a result this means a rather typical summer-time setup of sunshine and afternoon heavy showers and thunderstorms almost anywhere. However, most of these could well be across parts of France, Spain and Portugal where severe storms are possible, while some severe storms could also develop across Greece and Turkey through the afternoon as well. Much of Europe will be very warm if not hot, especially around Mediterranean countries.

Sunday
During Sunday and not a great deal of change is predicted. High pressure situated over Norway and Sweden will continue to dominate the weather across much of northern Europe, along with more northern areas of the British Isles as well. This means further mainly dry weather with some sunny spells as well and pleasantly warm. However, low pressure will continue to dominate across Iberia and up into France bringing further thundery downpours as the day progresses and these locally severe still as well. Some of these storms may well move northwards into more southern and western areas of the British Isles. Fine weather is forecast across more eastern areas of Europe, including Poland and surrounding countries with the exception of a few heavy afternoon showers. However, much of the Med maintains very warm or hot weather with plenty of sunshine, but with scattered afternoon downpours, these perhaps severe across parts of Greece and Turkey.
