Week ahead - May 06, 2018
Changeable, breezy
Rain mostly west

Issued: 0900hrs Sunday 6th May 2018
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Sunshine and showers next weekend

A mixed few days during midweek and beyond, as fronts come in from the Atlantic. A fresher south-westerly pattern brings rain or showers, most frequent in the west and north, but the south and east may see very little rain. Temperatures lowering compared to the Bank Holiday weekend, but still close to average.

Wednesday 09/05/18
Low pressure centred toward the north-west pushes fronts in from the Atlantic. Rain spreads across Ireland, and pushes into western Britain through the day. Showers follow fromt the west. Central and eastern Britain probably staying dry all day. A little sun, but clouding up from the west. Blustery south-westerly winds, risk of gales for the far north-west. Highs 11C in western Scotland, 17C Wales & Midlands, up to 20C south-east.

Thursday 10/05/18
Pressure tries to build again across the south, resulting in dry weather for many. The best of the sunshine toward the east. Showery rain for the north-west, which may merge to give frequent rain in western Scotland. Breezy in the north, lighter winds south. Fairly mild, but fresher than earlier in the week for southern areas, highs 14 to 17C. Nearer 10C western Scotland.

Friday 11/05/18
Low pressure remains to the west, with additional fronts coming in to bring rain or showers to Ireland and western Britain. Heaviest rain over hills in the west. Patchy rain for central areas. A south to southwesterly breeze, strongest around western coasts. The east and south-east may stay substantially dry, with some sun. Fairly cloudy overall. Highs 12 to 17C, warmest south-east.

Saturday 12/05/18
A general west to south-westerly pattern brings sunshine and showers. Most frequent rain in the west and north-west, drier south and east. Local heavy bursts possible. Feeling fresh, highs 12 to 18C.

Sunday 13/05/18
Sunshine and scattered showers again, the showers probably focused toward the north-west, and may be fewer elsewhere as pressure builds. Perhaps largely dry south and east. Highs 13 to 19C.

Detail uncertain, but indications favour a build of pressure, and things settling down with a good deal of sunshine and becoming warmer. A few residual areas of showers may linger. Highs 14 to 20C.
